San Jose Mercury-News article on Fleury

Mark Emmons, a reporter for the San Jose (Calif.) Mercury-News (one of the best newspapers in the country, in my opinion) wrote a great article on the recent trials of Dickinson State softball coach Kristen Fleury. Fleury, the team’s 24-year-old first-year-old head coach, is a San Jose-area native and, as most of you know, had to lead a group of players through the most trying time in Dickinson State athletic history when standouts Kyrstin Gemar, Ashley Neufeld and Afton Williamson died in a drowning accident earlier this month.

T-shirt: Birds of a Feather Flock Together

This is the design for the commemorative t-shirt the DSU Student Senate is selling for $3 in honor of Ashley Neufeld, Kyrstin Gemar and Afton Williamson. All proceeds from the t-shirt sales go to the families of Gemar, Neufeld and Williamson.

The shirts go on sale at 5 p.m. today at the DSU Student Center.

Ribbon made by a friend of mine

This is a decal created by my friend and DSU employee Jay Danbom to honor Ashley Neufeld, Kyrstin Gemar and Afton Williamson. Danbom said his rec hockey team will be wearing them during their game at 9 p.m. tonight at the Dickinson Recreation Center.

I know the football team is searching for some way to honor the women. In my mind, this is perfect.

Note that Neufeld’s initials and number are in red because she is a Canadian. Danbom said several players on his hockey team are Canadian and many knew Neufeld well.

This is just another sign of support by the community.
